The relationship between ISBN barcode and ISSN barcode

　　Barcode for publication is a uniform barcode identification for books and periodicals in accordance with the article coding principle customized by the International Article Coding Association. The application of this marking technology has a history of more than ten years. At present, there are ISSN and ISBN bar codes for publications. 　　As can be seen from the code structure diagram of publication bar code, it mainly takes ISSN and ISBN bar codes as the main body. The first three digits 978 and 977 are special prefix codes for books and periodicals, plus the 13th check code.

　　The barcode of publication must have two characteristics to be used as the retrieval point of publication: first, it is the common characteristic of all publications; Homogeneity must be specific and unique. As the ISSN and ISBN codes on each kind of book and periodical are unique, so are the bar codes of publications composed of ISSN and ISBN codes.

　　The change of ISBN bar code and ISSN bar code determines the uniqueness of publication bar code. At the same time, this characteristic of publication bar code determines that it is not only the same in content with ISBN bar code and ISSN bar code, but also consistent in function. They are only different in terms of input. The former is automatically collected and input to the target database in the computer by means of bar code reader and decoder, while the latter can only be transmitted to the target database by manual input.
