An overview of the types of barcodes

Bar code is a graphic coding system used to store and represent commodity information. According to different application needs, there are many types of bar codes are widely used. Several common bar code types are described below:

1. UPC Code (Universal Product Code) : UPC code is the most common type of bar code, mainly used in North America. It consists of 12 numbers that identify the manufacturer and product information of the item. UPC codes are commonly used in the retail industry, especially in cash register systems that scan goods in supermarkets and malls.

Numbering 2. European Article Numbering (EAN) : EAN code is an international standard for commodity barcodes and is commonly used worldwide. The EAN-13 code is the most common form and consists of 13 digits. It provides more coding capacity to identify country, manufacturer, and product information. EAN codes are widely used in retail, logistics and supply chain management.

3. Code 39: Code 39 is a widely used alphanumeric barcode that encodes letters, numbers, and some special characters. It is easy to print and scan, and can represent most ASCII characters. Code 39 is commonly used in areas such as inventory management, logistics tracking and manufacturing.

4. Code 128 Code: Code 128 code is a high-density linear barcode that can encode the entire ASCII character set. It has the characteristics of large coding capacity, compact and high reliability. Code 128 is commonly used in transportation and logistics to track goods, mark packaging, and manage inventory.

5. Quick Response Code (QR code) : QR code is a two-dimensional code that can store more information. Unlike barcodes, QR codes can store text, web addresses, contact information, pictures and many other data types. It is characterized by fast scanning speed, high fault tolerance, and can be embedded in a variety of media content. QR codes are widely used in mobile payment, advertising promotion, ticket management and product certification.

In addition to the several types mentioned above, there are many other barcodes, such as ITF codes, Codabar codes, Data Matrix codes, etc., which play an important role in different application scenarios. Whether linear barcodes or QR codes, they provide a fast, accurate and reliable way to store and retrieve commodity information, facilitating the efficiency of supply chain management and business transactions.
