DataMatrix is a member of the TWO-DIMENSIONAL code, formerly known as Datacode, invented by the American International Data Corporation in 1989. DataMatrix TWO-DIMENSIONAL code is a matrix two-dimensional bar code, the idea of its invention is to store more data in a smaller bar code label. The minimum size of dataMatrix QR code is currently the smallest of all bar codes, suitable for identification of small parts, anti-counterfeiting of goods, and direct printing on entities.

The dataMatrix QR code is divided into two types: ECC000-140 and ECC200. Ecc000-140 is based on convolution code error correction and has various levels of error correction functions, while ECC200 uses reed-Solomon algorithm to generate polynomial to calculate error correction codes. The ECC200 can be printed in different sizes according to requirements, but the error correction code must match the size. The ECC200 is common because of its easy algorithm and flexible size.

DataMatrix code is a matrix TWO-DIMENSIONAL code, its biggest characteristic is high density, small size, large storage information, its minimum size is the smallest of all bar codes, can be encoded in only 25mm² area of 30 numbers, dataMatrix two-dimensional code using complex error correction code technology, So dataMatrix code anti fouling can be strong, especially suitable for small parts identification, commodity security, circuit identification, etc..

The appearance of a dataMatrix QR code is a square or rectangular symbol composed of many small squares. The storage of data is a combination of white and black squares, which is encoded by binary-code. Black represents "1", white represents "0", and then a String of light and dark squares are used to describe the special character metadata. These strings are then listed into a completed matrix code, forming dataMatrix code, and then printed on different material surfaces with different printing presses. DataMatrix QR codes require only 20% of the ratio to be read, so it is suitable for use in places where bar codes are vulnerable, such as printed parts exposed to high heat, chemical cleaners, mechanical erosion and other special environments.

Datamatrix can be arbitrarily sized from 14 square inches to 0.0002 square inches, which is also the smallest bar code size, making it especially suitable for printing on board components. On the other hand, the size of most bar codes is absolutely related to the amount of data to be encoded, but the datamatrix size is independent of the amount of data to be encoded, so its size is relatively flexible.

DataMatrix TWO-DIMENSIONAL code features:

Encodable character set includes all ASCII characters and extended ASCII characters, a total of 256 characters.

Bar code size (excluding blank space) : 10 x 10 x 144 x 144

Data capacity: 235 digital data, 1556 8-bit data, 3116 digital data.

Error correction: The reed-Solomon algorithm generates polynomial calculation to obtain error correction codes. Different sizes should use different numbers of error correction codes.

DataMatrix QR code has the characteristics of large storage, high confidentiality, high traceability, strong loss resistance, high backup, low cost and so on. These characteristics are especially suitable for forms, security and confidentiality, tracking, licenses, inventory, data backup and other aspects.
