GS1 DataBar code selection suggestions

In practical applications, omni-directional slot scanner is used for bar code scanning. Omni-directional GS1 Databar bar code, omni-tiered GS1 Databar bar code, extended GS1 Databar bar code or layered extended GS1 Databar bar code can be considered. If encoding AI (01) only, you should use either an omni-directional GS1 Databar barcode or an omni-tiered GS1 Databar barcode, the choice of barcode depends on the aspect ratio of the barcode area. If you need to use the application identifier AI, or if the primary identifier is an AI other than AI (01), you should use an extended GS1 Databar barcode or a layer-extended GS1 Databar barcode, the choice depending on the width of the print head or the available area of the symbol. If the GS1 DataBar is used on small projects and does not require full scan identification, then the hierarchical GS1 DataBar bar code, the qualified GS1 DataBar bar code, or the truncated GS1 DataBar bar code should be used. Qualified GS1 DataBar barcodes cannot be used for GTIN-14 data structure encodings with indicator greater than 1, otherwise the hierarchical GS1 DataBar barcode or truncated GS1 DataBar barcode must be used.

The hierarchical GS1 DataBar bar code is the smallest bar code in the GS1 DataBar, but its row height is very small, difficult to scan, cannot be used on pen scanners, if space allows, can be encoded data structures, qualified GS1 DataBar bar code can be used. For a GTIN-14 data structure with an indicator greater than 1, consider using a truncated GS1 DataBar barcode. If the GS1 DataBar composite code (bar code composed of one-dimensional bar code GS1 DataBar and two-dimensional bar code) is used in practical applications, wider GS1 DataBar bar codes, such as truncated GS1 DataBar bar codes, should be used instead of qualified GS1 DataBar bar codes. Because even though the GS1 DataBar component itself is slightly taller, the wider two-dimensional composition component makes the GS1 DataBar composite code lower overall. It should be noted that the use of GS1 Databar bar codes is not intended to replace other codes in the GS1 system. Existing EAN/UPC codes, ITF-14 or GS1-128 should continue to be used if they meet application requirements. The use of GS1 Databar bar codes should comply with the GS1 System Worldwide Application Guidelines.
