Reduced Space Symbology GS1-databar was also formerly called Reduced Space Symbology(RSS).

Reduced Space Symbology GS1-databar was also formerly called Reduced Space Symbology(RSS). It can contain more information than the UPC/EAN series barcodes, while taking up less space than the UPC/EAN series barcodes. Therefore, the GS1-databAR can be printed on very small label paper. In addition, GS1-databAR barcodes can encode GS1 Application Identifier(AI) information such as price, expiration time, serial number or offer code. Gs1-databar can only encode numbers. The data encoded by GS1-DatabAR is called GTIN. GTIN describes a set of 14-bit universal data structures GS1 (EAN/UCC), which can be coded in barcodes or radio frequencies. Number 14 is a packaging level description. The GTIN authority will confirm that these numbers are unique in the world.

The GS1-databAR family includes seven different barcode formats: Gs1-databar Truncated, GS1-DATABAR Truncated, GS1-Databa limited,GS1-Databar Stacked,GS1-Databar stacked Omni-directional,GS1-Databar Expanded,GS1-Databar Expanded Stacked. They can be scanned in all directions.

Gs1-databar-14, GS1-DatabAR Truncated, GS1-DatabAR Stacked, and GS1-DatabAR Stacked have the same structure and coding rules.

Gs1-databar Truncated barcode structure is exactly the same as GS1-databAR. The only difference is that the height is reduced to only 13 bit units.

Gs1-databar Stacked bar code contains two GS1-databAR Truncated rows. The upper level is 5 units high, the lower level is 7 units high. There is an interval of one unit between the two layers. So the GS1-Databar stack has a total height of 13 units. Here X represents the height of a single bar or space.

Gs1-databar Stacked Omnidirectional barcode contains two rows of full-height barcodes (at least 33X each) GS1-DatabAR. The rows are separated by three units of height. The minimum size of a GS1-Databar Stacked Omnidirectional barcode is 50X wide by 69X high. Here X represents the height of a single bar or space.

Gs1-databa Limited has a completely different structure and coding rules. Gs1-databa Limited has 74 units with a minimum height of 10 units and does not require quiet zones to separate noise.

Gs1-databar Expanded and GS1-Databar Expanded Stacked are completely different from the previous two sets of codes.

Gs1-databar Expanded is a variable length bar code used to encode numbers and Application Identifier (AI). The total width of the barcode depends on how much data is encoded. The minimum height is 34X. Here X is used to indicate the height of a single bar or space.

The coding rules and structure of GS1-Databar Expanded Stacked are exactly the same as those of GS1-databar Expanded. The only difference is that the GS1-Databar Expanded stack can contain two to 11 rows of data.
