What are the advantages of bar codes
Bar codes were first proposed by N.T. Oodland in the United States in 1949. In recent years, with the increasing popularity of computer applications, the application of bar codes has been greatly developed. Bar codes can mark the commodity's country of production, manufacturer, commodity name, production date, book classification number, mail starting and ending place, category, date and other information, so in commodity circulation, library management, post and telecommunications management, banking system and many other fields have been widely used.

Bar code is composed of bars and blanks with different widths and reflectance and compiled according to certain coding rules (code system). It is used to express a group of numeric or alphabetic symbol information. That is, a bar code is a group of different thickness, according to a certain rule arranged spacing of parallel line graphics. Common barcodes are made up of black bars (abbreviated as bars) and white bars (abbreviated as blanks) with very different reflectance. Here are the advantages of bar codes:
1. Reliable and accurate:
For information, there is an error every 300 characters in keyboard input on average, and an error every 15,000 characters in barcode input on average. If the check is added, the error rate is one in 10 million.
2. Fast data input:
For keyboard typing, a typist typing 90 words per minute can type 12 characters or strings in 1.6 seconds, compared with 0.3 seconds for the bar code, a five-fold increase in speed;
3. Cheap economy:
Compared with other automatic identification technology, the application of bar code technology, the cost is longer and lower;
4. Flexible and practical:
As a means of recognition, bar code symbols can be used alone, or can be composed of recognition system and related equipment to achieve automatic recognition, but also can be linked with other control equipment to achieve automatic management of the whole system. At the same time, when there is no automatic identification device, it can also achieve manual keyboard input;
5. Large degree of freedom:
The degree of freedom between the recognition device and the bar code label is much greater than that of OCR. Bar codes usually only express information in the one-dimensional direction, while the information represented on the same bar code is identical and continuous. In this way, correct information can still be input from the normal part even if the label is partially missing.
6. Simple equipment:
Barcode symbol recognition equipment has the advantages of simple structure, easy operation and no special training.
7. Easy to make:
Printable, called "printable computer language". Bar code labels are easy to make and have no special requirements on printing equipment and materials.
